Lionel Messi To Undergo Scan On Left Knee

Sep 21, 2021 4:19 PM

Lionel Messi will undergo scans for a left knee injury.

Messi has already been ruled out of Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 match against Metz and is also in doubt for next Tuesday's Champions League tie against Manchester City.

When asked about Messi's situation at a news conference, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino replied: "The club has already communicated Leo's situation and it's clear.

"We had seen that Messi was touching his knee. I'm very happy with what he did during the match [against Lyon]. After 75 minutes, taking into account the information we had, we made the decision [to bring him off].

"Messi is a great champion, and like all great champions, he didn't want to come off. I'm happy with his commitment and his performance. He hasn't scored yet, but he played very well."

Barcelona Considering Dismissal Of Ronald Koeman

Sep 21, 2021 4:18 PM

Barcelona are beginning to consider replacing Ronald Koeman as manager.

Koeman's position was further weakened by Monday's 1-1 draw at Camp Nou against Granada in LaLiga, which followed last week's 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Jordi Cruyff, who returned to Barca in an advisory capacity this summer, has championed Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, while former midfielder Xavi Hernandez, coaching Al-Sadd in Qatar, is another option.

Leonardo Expects Kylian Mbappe To Remain With PSG Next Season

Sep 15, 2021 10:17 AM

Leonardo has said he expects Kylian Mbappe to remain with Paris Saint-Germain beyond the current season and denied that the club ever received a final bid from Real Madrid worth €200 million.

"I don't see Mbappe leaving at the end of the season," Leonardo told Canal+ on Tuesday. "The relationship Kylian has with PSG is deep. Nobody is thinking about the future of PSG without Kylian. I can't imagine it."

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco for €180 million in 2017, beating Real Madrid to sign him.

Mbappe has so far refused to agree to a contract extension with PSG.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: New Stars Could Convince Paul Pogba To Stay

Sep 13, 2021 9:58 PM

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United's acquisitions of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane could make Paul Pogba decide to extend his stay with the club.

Pogba has stalled on signing an extension with United and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

"It's up to us now to get results and to prove to ourselves we can win trophies," Solskjaer told a news conference in Bern on Monday.

"Everyone who signs for Manchester United wants to win trophies. To be a part of a winning Man United team, it's the most magical feeling in the world.

"Everyone's just focusing on doing our best and let's see where we go."

Barcelona Tried To Sign Neymar In Summer

Sep 7, 2021 7:57 AM

Joan Laporta claims Barcelona attempted to sign Neymar this summer.

"We tried to sign Neymar," Laporta told TV3 on Monday, confirming reports that had appeared in Spain earlier in the day.

"At that moment [after being elected in March], it seemed like an interesting signing. He got in contact. He was crazy about coming.

"We interpreted fair play in another way at the time. If we had known all the rules [in LaLiga], we would not have made that offer."

Barcelona instead eventually had to sell Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.

United Still Have Erling Haaland As Top Transfer Target Next Summer

Sep 1, 2021 8:36 AM

Erling Haaland remains the priority transfer target for Manchester United next summer despite their acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Haaland, who can trigger a release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract at the end of this season that is reportedly set at €75 million

United will pay an initial €15m for Ronaldo with a further €8m in additional payments over five years, but while the transfer fee is relatively small, the Old Trafford club have had to make the 36-year-old the highest-paid player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad by some distance.

United came close to signing the Norway international from FC Salzburg during the 2019-20 winter transfer window, only for the player to opt for a move to Dortmund.
